This coloring book includes over 30 illustrations of powerful people living with proximal femoral focal deficiency (PFFD), which involves shortened or missing femurs (thighs). In addition to promoting positive images of people with limb differences and amputation, this book offers age appropriate information on PFFD, which is a relatively rare birth anomaly. You wouldn't know that PFFD is rare, given the strength of the PFFD community!
I didn't know the name of the condition that I was born with until I was an adult. My husband and I were planning on starting a family and I had no idea if my pelvis and hips could withstand a pregnancy. Of course, this was pre-internet. I requested my medical records from the Shriners Hospital for Children and my eyes were opened to the many visits , surgery, and prosthetic fittings that threaded my childhood together. The amazing thing about PFFD is that there are so many different presentations. My goal was to learn more about PFFD and try to illustrate a wide range of presentations. I would have loved this book when I was a kid.
